St. Thomas

St. Thomas is the U.S. Virgin Island's most visited spot. The island is set up to receive masses of visitors, from dozens of cruise ships that pull in every week to the thousands that arrive by air. The island's infrastructure is efficient, shopping in the historic capital Charlotte Amalie (pronounced a-MAHL-yah) is virtually unparalleled, and hotels range from midrange inns to super-luxury resorts. It's a playground, plain and simple, and a pretty one at that. Magens Bay, on the North Coast, is one of the Caribbean's most photographed beaches. Views from the hills to the coast and nearby islands are stunning. The Coral World Marine Park & Underwater Observatory, at Coki Bay on the east coast, is one the Caribbean's largest sea aquariums. The 4.5-acre marine park offers nature trails, a shark pool, and a "touch pool" for kids. Plantation greathouses have opened their doors for tours, and the island has geared up to entertain and accommadate families in a big way.
