Dominica
Dominica, the "Nature Island of the Caribbean." With a name like that, who could resist?
Well, quite a few apparently. For all its vivid, exotic plant and animal species,
towering mountains, and virtually untouched lush rainforest and jungles, Dominica
remains one of the Lesser Antilles' least traveled destinations. The reason probably
lies with the mainstream touring public's taste for amenities. On Dominica you'll find
sparse an rocky beaches, rustic accommodations, and little of the glitz and glamour that
accompanies the preferred Caribbean vacation spots. Preferred, that is, by some. For the
rest, Dominica is everything a natural island should be; great chunks of the interior
and coast exsist under the protection of a national park service. With its hiking
trails, waterfalls, boiling lakes, some of the best scuba diving in the Windward
Islands, and a resonant Creole culture, Dominica will not disappoint an adventurous
spirit.
