Bonaire

It was the sea that first earned the island its reputation as a prime diving and snorkeling destination. One reason for this is that Bonaire, surronded by riffing reefs, hosts abundant excellent reef-diving spots that are accesible a few feet from the shore. Clear water provides visibillity of 100 feet (30 meters) year-round, and the islanders and government are extremely sensitive to the fragility of the environment, which has produced Bonaire's most unique advantage, the Bonaire Marine Park.
The park completely surrounds the island and also encompasses the waters surrounding a 1,500-acre (600-hectare) offshore cay called Klein Bonaire (Little Bonaire)). Within park waters are some 80 public moorings for boats and 86 marked dive sites, most of them ripe with coral reef and tropical fish and other marine life.
