Anguilla
Flat, enlongated and unhurried Anguilla (an-GWIH-law) was frequently removed from the
ravages of 18th- and 19th-century European wars that spread throughout the West Indies.
Later, the island was mostly removed from the ravages of the plantation slave economy.
Today, a visitor to Anguilla could easily feel that it is still somewhat removed-now
it's from the modern tourism industry. Yet here is an a island that, in this century,
has experienced enough internal political tumoil to warrant military intervention by
outside forces; it amounted to a revolution.
